LETTER FROM DAF BOARD MEMBER ED WHITE- A LEAD PLAINTIFF IN NEW CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR RETIRED PLAYERS V NFL IN MINNEAPOLIS FEDERAL COURT
Brent,
Hope that al is well up in the North woods!
Bob Stein is spearheading this class action. Here is some insight on this lawsuit, we want to get the word out to all who may have been effected. Thanks, Ed.
Fellow retired NFL players-
There is a class action lawsuit you should be aware of. Bob Stein was my attorney when I played and has been a close friend and advisor for 30 years. He is an 8 year NFL vet ('69-'76) who was asked by a teammate if the League had the right to use our identities and publicity rights to create revenue and League value forever, without paying for them. He researched, engaged top attorneys to help him and concluded "no, that is not fair or legally right".
On August 20 2009 we filed a class action lawsuit against the NFL in Minnesota Federal Court, led by Class Reps Elvin Bethea, Fred Dryer, Jim Marshall, Dan Pastorini, Joe Senser and me. It asks fair compensation for unauthorized NFL use of publicity and identity rights through NFL Films and elsewhere. The Reps are strongly committed to protecting your rights and securing you fair payment.
Bob associated with class action experts he’s known for many years, including senior partner Bucky Zimmerman, at Zimmerman Reed PLLP . Their site is www.zimmreed.com.
